The Croatian Rural Development Network (HMRR) felt the need and the desire to organise a Rural Parliament in Croatian with a clear goal: to hear the voice of rural areas of Croatia, so HMRR have been the initiator and organiser of the ‘Hrvatski Ruralni Parlament (HRP)’ (Croatian Rural Parliament , in English) in this country.
Croatian Rural Development Network – Hrvatska Mreža za Ruralni Razvoj (HMRR)
HMRR is a network of organisations that promotes sustainable development of Croatian rural areas since 2006. By working together, networking, partnership and knowledge transfer, they aim to improve conditions for sustainable development and high-quality life in rural communities. HMRR advocates for the development of Croatia, its people and rural areas by their social and economic activities.
HMRR’s areas of activity are:
- Advocating interests of rural stakeholders in creating and implementing public policies.
- Networking and informing their members and contributors to rural development.
- Education, exchange of knowledge and experiences.
- Organisation development.
The first Croatian Rural Parliament, with more than 200 participants in 2015, was held in Baranja and its main topic was “How to keep young people in rural areas?”. On the other hand, the second one was focused on “Cooperation to complete development”, which was held in 2017 in Međimurje and gathered around 300 participants. Both Rural Parliaments have resulted in a Declaration that sends messages and suggestions to the general public and decision-makers at European, national, regional and local levels.
First Croatian Rural Parliament – How to keep youth in rural areas?
The first HRP marked the beginning of the process of strengthening and connecting local rural communities in joint reflection and searching for answers to the challenges of the development of rural areas of Croatia. In Baranja, the organisers wanted to point out the importance of the rural area for a sustainable development throughout the territory of Croatia.
Second Croatian Rural Parliament – Cooperation to complete development
The second HRP was co-organised by Croatian Rural Development Network (HMRR) and the LAG Međimurski doli i bregi, in the Municipality of Sveti Martin na Muri from 20-22 April 2017. There were over 300 participants from all around Croatia: LAGs, associations of rural development, professional and scientific organisations, representatives of Ministries and state administrative bodies, local self-government units, entrepreneurs, agricultural producers, craftsmen and other rural development stakeholders.
Third Croatian Rural Parliament – Smart Villages
It is organised by Croatian Rural Development Network (HMRR) and the LAG a-More 249, which will be held in Tisno and Vodice municipalites, Šibenik-Knin county, May 20-23 2019. The opening ceremony starts today Monday 20th at the Hotel Olympia Vodice. The main topic of this year’s Rural Parliament will be ‘Smart Villages’ and will be studied the digitalization of agriculture as well as the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the Strategic Plan for the period after 2020. There will be also a large exhibition of local products and participants are invited to bring their products of the area and present their respective gastronomic offers.
